Incoming Students
The “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory welcomes foreign students wanting to spend a period of study or training in Palermo and is committed to making arrangements to enable students – also those with physical disabilities – to participate as fully as possible in the academic life. Visiting students are completely likened to home students.
The Erasmus office keeps in touch with the student’s home institution and takes care of the official procedures and of somepractical aspects. The involved department organizes the lessons timetable and and delivers the needed information.Mobility grants for Italy amount to 250.00 Euro per month for Study and 350.00 Euro per month for Traineeship.
Our teaching staff includes Professors with great experience in performance and research fields, skilled in classical, early and jazz music.
All Professors and staff are ready to welcome Erasmus+ students and to involve them in all of artistic and formative activities.
Academic year and deadlines
Deadlines for exchange applications
- May 1st (Winter semester) – October 15 th (Spring semester)
- Winter semester: 2 November (official start) – end of February
- Spring semester 1 March – 15 July
Application requirements
Students who wish to apply to the Conservatorio of Palermo as part of an international exchange program can apply via EASY and submit the following documents:
- Motivation and Recommendation letters
- Curriculum Vitae
- Transcript of Records
- Link Youtube to an audio or video recording with two or three pieces from different musical periods.
Teaching language is Italian. A competency level of B1 or better is required.
First and second level courses adopt ECTS credit system (European Credit Transfer System) which greatly facilitates mobility andrecognition of study units between academic institutions.
Erasmus students are entitled to attend any classes beside the main course, according to the number of available places andteachers. Every year there is normally a good deal of available places for Erasmus students in almost every department.

Accommodation in Palermo
Students have to arrange themselves for lodging. Foreign students usually find accommodation in Palermo in private housesthey share with other students, in single or double rooms. Prices may range from about 150 to 250 a month for a singleroom
Permits and Visas
Foreign students who are citizens of European Union members states require no special permits to study in Italy. The same istrue for students from special-statute nations such as Liechtenstein, the Principality of Monaco, and Switzerland.
Italian law requires that all students from non-European Union countries get a Student Permit (in Italian, Permesso di soggiorno per Studio) that must be valid throughout the entire mobility period
Health Care Coverage in Italy
It has always been the policy of the Italian government to guarantee free health care coverage for everyone, regardless of anyindividual’s financial capabilities or immigration status
Such assistance is regulated by international conventions, International students are guaranteed coverage for the expense ofhealth care in two different ways, depending, in other words, upon whether or not the student in question comes from a European Union member state.
